Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,
You can install Skype just like on any other Linux distro, although there might be performance differences between the one offered by your package manager or the Static/Dynamic one offered through the Skype website. Check out first through the package manager as pointed out by Josh (corp769) and if you don't have full functionality, download the Static version from the Skype website. Have fun with Linux. Kind regards, Eric |
Thank you both very much! I can use skype, just need 2 get used the difference in layout. Also, do either of you know how to get my mic working with it? its built into my computer and worked fine with my windows 7 version of skype

Do you have your sound card configured for use?

Check if Skype hasn't 'muted' your microphone. Happens to me on various occasions. There's an option in Skype to allow it to take control over your sound devices and that sometimes plays tricks on you. Kind regards, Eric |
New bee into backtrack right
hi, I think first u need synaptic package manger which will help u lot of these type of softwares to install on ur linux to get it apt-get install synaptic after just go into the search bar and type skype and install it on ur backtrack and the problem with ur mic probably may be You logged in as root
So, what you have to do is Log out first and type adduser and then adduser UrName and Password and login as user Now, You logged in as user and open sound preferences and go to input option and make the option as Microphone2 and check your skype by skype test call probably this should work frm RapidX |

Why would you dig up an old thread, especially when the OP never replied back to me or Eric? Cheers, Josh |
