Interesting. Nobody's mentioned Moblin in this thread. It's still Linux kernel, but it's a completely different user space. Optimized for netbooks, mobile devices, embedded systems (e.g. vehicle entertainment systems), etc. I'm just mentioning it because I have a friend who has a netbook and has been trying one install after another, searching for something that will really work for him. He just wiped it again (his latest Ubuntu install had hosed itself) and installed Moblin yesterday. He described it as a social media interface.

i HATE moble devices, linux is too good for mobile devices and doesnt deserve that $hitty hardware.
infact windows is almost too good for moble devices.

Oberon, which is part of Bluebottle, is quite interesting in itself. I've been perusing through it using Slackware as a host system. The GUI is very different, and might take some time to get used to.

Wow. That's pretty strong. We're headed toward ubiquitous computing, and that's an awful lot of stuff to be rejecting out of hand.

hi guys! i'm the blog manager and the os maintainer. i agree, its not a solid operating system like win xp, its only GUI OS. Have you all ever used skyfire???? SkyFire OS is now called openPine OS, with larger support of drivers, softwares, games and faster booting. SkyFire OS developments was stopped and no longer active. But, openPine OS is a clone of SkyFire OS, but with larger compatibility. i'll try to create a bootable single disk iso with openpine os installer, so it is easier to install.
