wireless networking in MEPIS

Has anyone had any success in installing wireless equipment, of any kind, in MEPIS? I have a Linksys access point, WUSB54G (router is in another room), but MEPIS won't even recognize that the network (or eth1 or wlan0 on this computer) is there, much less connect. I'm disappointed, because other distributions (such as Knoppix) at least detected my network once I installed the driver with Ndiswrapper. I went to the network control center, whatever MEPIS calls it, and saw that nothing except eth0 was even available. DHCP(sic?) did not detect any network, and entering a static address did not help either. (BTW, I am using the SimplyMepis liveCD.)

Yes.
I've had some success with linsys pci wifi cards. I can't tell you the model number cus I'm at home and they are at work.
I just went to the MepisOS Coinfig Center and then to Network Interfaces and set wlan0 to start at boot and then to the wifi tab to set ESSID and then rebooted. (Rebooting is sort of recommended by MEPIS - or, at least, it says "some cards won't take the new settings without a reboot") - obviously this presents problems on a LiveCD.

I do have to say at this point that I had 7 identical machines and 7 identical wifi cards and one of them worked straight off and all the other's said "what wifi network?"
I did install kwifimanager as well to seek the available networks and it couldn't find any of the WAP's even though both were within 10 feet of the wifi card.

I can add more to this after I get back to work tomorrow.

I have a D-Link DWL-G520. It just worked right out of the box. Like salparadise, I had to tell it to start at boot.
