Weird problem with apt-get and e2fsprogs

Hello all,
Weird problem here with MEPIS installation. When I try to apt-get python, it tells me it can't install because e2fsprogs needs to be removed, and if I try to remove e2fsprogs, it will want to take an amazing amount of seemingly unrelated packages with it, including konsole! So obviously that's out of the question.

Anyone had this problem or know how I can get around the issue without installing py from src? Thanks a lot!

python is already in the default install but i suppose you want to upgrade it,
find out what the conflict is with apt-get install e2fsprogs python
