view email photos in back-up cd

I've made a back up and find that although I can read the text emails on the back-up cd , the photos only show as some really weird text.(hexidecimal-code ?)
Which program should I use to view the photo emails?

If you just saved the mail folder from Thunderbird for instance, you will need to use Thunderbird to open that email. In the future, you can save the pics in the emails to a folder so they can be viewed with a pic viewer.

Many thanks for the quick response.
I had not realized that the photos sent to me as attachments would not be able to be seen when I backed up the whole email folders.
Thanks again. (I have now saved them to a seperate folder)
