Trying to install Mepis antiX-8.2 on an old Sony Vaio laptop (PCG-623L), with a PIII, 384MB ram. It has the docking station with a cd/dvd rom which is supposedly connected via the 1394 interface rather than IDE.
The cd boots to the install menu (grub?), but when the kernel boots up it gives the message "Can't find MEPIS filesystem, sorry. Dropping you to a (very limited) shell." This is supposedly (from an Ubuntu forum) because the default location of root when booting a liveCD should be /dev/cdrom.
My Linux skills are rusty. How do check from the ash command line to see which where the cd/dvd is appearing?
