The New Mepis 6.5 buggers up the MBR

I'm trying to install the new Mepis 6.5 but it keeps buggering up the MBR so the PC will not boot. When Grub starts to load I get an error code. I've install Mepis a couple of times now but the same thing happens. Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance

Steve

No, but even if I was a grub guru -which I'm not- your not giving much to go on.

So what is it? Does it have a number?

Boot up with the live cd and try to post the information from the following;

Code:
fdisk -l
Code:
cat /boot/grub/menu.lst
Mepis has always just worked on my hardware. Is this the only distro giving this grief?

Edit/ One other thought. When installing Mepis did you choose to install to MBR or was grub there from a previous install of something?

JSYK (just so you know, why did I use the abbreviation?),

you can screw with the bootloader quite a lot and nothing happens to your installation. Be fearless! I've done it a lot.

I use LILO, nevertheless, I'll tell you the problem I've had most often is that the config file indicates the wrong (1) kernel image, or (2) initrd or (3) points to nothing, or all of the above. Another problem is that you don't have an initrd or a kernel at all. Check to see what the system requires. Also, you may not have installed the booloader to the MBR, even though you think you did.

Slackware is nice enough to have a manpage directly about this situation (and about how to build an initrd). I would suggest checking with Debian and Ubuntu help on this, as well as anything specific to Mepis.

Joel
