Synaptic Not Starting

Hey all Synaptic won't start for a particular user account. It'll start for root. Everything works fine there. But it won't start up in the user account I use routinely. Annoying situation. I'm wondering if anyone here has seen this before. Click on synaptic and all you get is a spinning icon in the system tray. It never prompts for root password. Does anybody here have any idea how to correct this issue...

How are you starting it, clicking the icon or from cli?

If it happens when you click the icon, try starting it from cli, it may show some messages to give a clue as to what is going on with it.

you could check the icon to see if it runs for which user

or you could just add kdesu before the command in the icon properties

kdesu '/usr/sbin/synaptic'

I got synaptic to start yesterday by clicking on the icon in the KMenu. I got a root prompt. However, the old prompt used to grey the screen. This one is a kde type prompt. Like what comes up for Mepis Tools, File Manager in rooter user Mode and so forth. I replaced the small button for it in the system tray with a new one. I'm also getting a message about the applications being unauthenticated. Which I don't remember seeing at all before.
