static IP and boot activation problem when using network assistant

Hi,

When I try to configure my nic with the network assistant to use a static IP, gateway and dns something fails, causing eth0 not to have the IP assigned and the network not to be activated at boot.

There are no error messages, the only visual hint is that the "assigned ip" filed in the assistant stays empty.

If I activate it by hand using ifconfig at CLI to assign those values it does work fine.

Setting it to aquire values from dhcp works fine too.

How could I fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe get rid of network assistant and dhcp stuff and configure the NIC manually in /etc/network/interfaces? It's pretty simple.

to be honest I wasn't looking into that because lately so many of the distros rebuild that kind of files at boot that I don't bother anymore... but fortunately I was wrong AND the file is utterly easy; so, problem solved!

Thanks for the input!
Regards.

For the records, this section
Code:

iface eth0 inet static
should end up looking like this (tweak to suit your lan)
Code:

iface eth0 inet static
        address 192.168.1.101
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        gateway 192.168.1.254

Yes, this Ğdoing things for youğ stuff in modern distros can be very disturbing. ;)
