Server/Samba Help Needed

I'm a linux Newbie and I am looking into changing a windows pc into a network server using Linux and samba...

I've experimented with Mepis 3.4.x (LIVE DISC) and am having very favorable results... however Linux is creating a generic workgroup called Mepisgrp. I have change the workgroup setting in both Mepis tweaks and Samba, even stopped and started the eth(0) interface... the workgroup pc will not switch into my existing workgroup.

What am I missing?

Did you restart the Samba daemon itself?
