Just downloaded SimplyMepis64 to AMD64 4600+ with Asus mobo. The USB mouse hangs after a period of inactivity; the keyboard still works and the computer will respond appropriately [ even though trying to reset the X server with ctl-alt-backspace doesn't seem to want to work ].
1. The first ones I suspected, but the cats were outside at the time of the incident.
2. USB is not overloaded. Swapped PS2 mouse for USB mouse and the problem went away.
3. So you are correct: it is related to hardware. I'll troubleshoot based on that suggestion ...
