Why no thread here?
It is debian based, is it better to install Debian than mepis?

MEPIS isn't nearly as popular as Debian, but it is still actively maintained and most reviews seem quite positive about it. There is no reason you can't give it a try.

I have mepis 8.0 loaded on my old Thinkpad because Debian removed the cs module I needed for the sound due to copyright issues (two lines were missing in the copyright info...sheesh) It's a fine distro. Though I prefer clean debian when I can.
