MEPIS 3.4 - anyone else feel like its christmas in disneyworld?

I just cannot wait for the new SimplyMEPiS 3.4. I am going nuts. I keep stopping into Distrowatch.com, heading over to Mepis.org, then over to Mepislovers.org, and then back to Distrowatch.

I feel like a kid in some kind of store that sells candy!

Does anyone have some solid news that can assuage my obsession? I know its Open Source and its ready when its ready.... but I am ready yesterday!

I may need to check in somewhere with doctors in nice white coats.

Mepis 3.4.1 rc1 has been available for the past 10 days or so - see any of the Mepis mirror sites, for example ftp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/mepis/testing

Check for bug reports at MepisLovers

you also want the real "thang" to be bug free dont you? rc2 should be out in 5-10 days, and an rc3 may be released 15-20 days after that, you have a while to wait

Lefty,

You may not be able to get what you want. I don't recall seeing a "final"
version of MEPIS in .iso form since 3.3 last February. All the .iso's since
then have been test or release candidate versions.

But if you update or upgrade from the repositories your installation will
quickly lose any definite version correlation anyway, so I can't consider
this a weighty issue.

yes, I want it bug free. Yes, I know most of the MEPIS iso's are for paying people only. It doesn't mean that I cannot be excited, does it?

Lefty,

I don't mean to spoil your fun, I just don't want you severely disappointed. I don't expect Warren to publish a 3.4 iso but I may be wrong. I admire your excitement and enthusiasm and want them to persist.

The reason there are more iso's on the paid site than on the free mirrors is that the mirrors don't keep all of the old stuff as the paid site does. Oh, and there may be some supplementary iso's from last Spring that the mirrors did not pick up. But the usual practice is that new stuff comes up on the paid site first and then is available from the free mirrors within two or three days. The main benefit of a paid membership is the knowledge that you are helping to keep MEPIS going.

Not really sure what youre waiting for. Downloaded and installed rc1 and can't find what you'd call "bugs" , especially if you define bugs by ubuntu standards....glaring foul-ups that cause apps not to run. Closest thing to a bug was adding gnome and "losing" k3b over dep conflicts, and having to reinstall a newer kaffeine after uptrading kde to 3.4.3 .... all out of sid repos. And, if I understood correctly, version 3.4.1 was the first dcc kernel? So welcome to a debian common core...final versions on a debian based distro leaning towards the unstable branch?

Either wait ...or start using 3.4 rcs and see what youre missing....and watch the pretty fishes

Be patient. I am now running 3.4.2rc1 and then upgraded KDE to 3.5.0 and firefox 1.5. Yes I know that you have to pay to be on the bleeding edge. I am retired and this is my hobby and I support Warren because I can and he is doing a great job.
Based on the results I'm getting 3.4 Gold should show up on Distro Watch before long. I have been using Mepis for two years now and although I play with other distros (I have a replaceable drive bay so it makes it easy). Mepis is my primary system and I doubt that will change.

mepis 3.4-2rc-1

I'm using Mepis 3.4-2rc1 right now , it's rock-solid,changed my repo's to get my dvd player/burner software to work. Audigy sound card and surround sound ,Tv-out going to the tv to watch video and games too!
I will leave this installation alone for a bit,and wait for the latest from Warren

Go for it!! I'm running 3.4.1-rc1 and kde 3.5 now, I found it much more stable than other distros, more stable than most "production" releases. Don't waste your time waiting!!
