LinuxQuestions.org - Linux printer, no output in MEPIS 6.0?

My first post on LQ's although I've alway been an avid reader! So first off I'd better say hello to everybody, so hello all!

I am running Mepis 6.0, which I installed recently, it's a great distro, I have everything working as it should, except for one thing. I have a Brother 2070N laser B & W printer connected via USB2 which I can't get to print.

I know this printer works on Linux because it was my main printer when running Suse linux. The printer has an entry in the Linux Printing database, and Brother supply linux drivers with CUPS wrappers.

I have downloaded and installed brhl2070Nlpr driver and the CUPS wrapper from the Brother site, when I open 'http://localhost:631' the printer is shown there, but any attempt to print results in this error message: HL2070N "Printer not connected; will retry in 30 seconds..."

I'm guessing now that this might be either a configuration error or maybe permissions, but since this is my first time with a non-RPM distro, I'm at a bit of a loss of how to proceed.

In an effort to troubleshoot the problem, I have done.

I also followed advice to try the utility "printconf" which I installed, but (dry run)Konsole output :

I am sure this printer should work as Brother support Linux, and I've had the device as my main printer with SuSE but I'm not sure what I should do next, can anyone help please?
