Forgive the bluntness, but WTF is "K9"? -- It's not in MY list of available packages.
Surely not this: K9 Web Protection If you're going to mention s/w in your post, please provide a link unless you're sure we all know what it is. |
K9 Copy is a Linux alternative to DVD shrink for making Backup's of your DVD's
http://k9copy.sourceforge.net/ As you haven't given us much to go on I trust your distro of choice is Mepis? try starting K9 from a terminal instead of a icon so you can see any errors in the terminal - Also K9copy does hang if you do not have libdvdcss installed |
Thanks for the link, Sm1ler

K9copy was available in Mepis7. It may have been a backported package, but it was great for my needs and allowed me to not repurchase the same DVD movies I had already purchased... * * K9copy DVD like dvdshrink A small utility which allows the copy of DVD on Linux. The DVD video stream is compressed by the program Vamps. o Copy without menus : In this case, dvdauthor is used to create a new DVD structure. It is possible to choose the order in which the video sequences are played. o Copy with menus : As dvdauthor does not make it possible to integrate the original menus, K9Copy reproduces the original structure of the DVD. The navigation packs as well as IFO files are modified to point on the compressed MPEG stream. * * Archtoad6, I must be a horrid Movie user, and I find a great many of my DVD have become unplayable over the years. They get scratched, gouged and damaged, becoming unplayable, and that is the reason I have been creating a back-up with K9copy... When the back-up becomes unplayable, I make another back-up and use it instead of the original. The movie companies will not replace a damaged copy, they always want to sell you another at retail... I have changed software, am using OGMRip because I can not locate a decent in-depth explanation of K9copys settings, to figure-out or set-right my previous working software. I am running mepis8 currently, before upgrading to mepis8, it was quite easy to create an avi, and then add two films to a dvd using DeVeDe. For one reason or another I have messed about with K9copy and it no-longer works as expected what ever settings I use... JR |
Nice comment on the usefulness of DVD copying s/w. I still can't find k9copy in my repositories.
k9copy is in the MEPIS 7 repo Code:
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org etch main Notes When mentioning s/w, please use its full & correct name: in the this case "K9Copy" not "K9", note the both the 'K' & the 'C' are capitalized per the official website. (Yes, the package name is all lower case, but not the project name.) It often saves time if you provide links to information about the s/w. 4 suggestions:
Finally, I have at least temporarily fixed the "WTF is K9 problem" by adding K9Copy to the K9 WikipediaŽ page; let's hope no one reverts it. |
