Jerky Operation on Battery

System
Dual Boot: Mepis 6.0 / Windows 2000 Pro
Dell Latitude c600
1 GHz P3
256 MB SDRAM

Problem
System operates great on A/C power but when I try to operate on battery power using Mepis the operation becomes jerkey with frequent but momentary freezes (lasting a few seconds - then working - then freezing again). Plug it back in to A/C and it works fine. This only began yesterday -- has not done it before. Using Windows 2k I do not experience this problem on battery power. If anyone here can shed some light on this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

By the way, thanks again for your help with my wireless card ("Wireless Woes" and "Wireless Woes Part 2"). It's still working great!

Hi Folks,
I'm sure some of you gave this post some serious consideration and maybe even did some research into the problem. For that, I thank you! I could never figure it out or run across anyone who could offer a fix so I just did a fresh install of Mepis 6.0 and the problem is gone. That, however, puts me back at square one with the wireless network card. Oh well . . .

Happy Computing!

UPDATE
After installing the wireless card (without a hitch) the jerky operation problem came back. So, if someone does come across a possible fix or has anything to offer please post it here. Thanks!

some tips

1st, I would recommend mepislovers.com forums if you want to get quick support

2nd, it might be that the frequency throttling of the CPU when on DC is bothering you. Set kpowersave (battery icon) to 'performance' when on battery, see if that fixes it

PROBLEM SOLVED!
Kpowersave was indeed set to "Dynamic" -- set to "Performance"
