How to Login as Root when Slim is the Display Manager?

I sometimes like to run as root; I understand the risks and am willing to take them.

With most distros I've used, GDM is the display manager, and I know how to enable root login there. I'm now trying a distro (antiX Mepis) that uses Slim for its DM, and I cannot find where to enable root login.

Can you help me?

Lane

No,
there is no reason to be logged in as root.
Use sudo or su - as necessary.

If you are logged in as root and using a web browser, any malicious actions will affect your whole install.

No-one logs in as root except in emergencies.

Since this is about tweaking SLiM on antiX, I'm moving this to MEPIS.

Are you sure this is a SLiM problem not an antiX one? -- I just read the SLiM manual, & there is no mention of root being disallowed.

I think you're on to something there- my kids' Slackware machine has SLiM, and allows root login.

If you have the latest antiX, you can append 3 to the boot menu.lst, login as root and use startx.
If you want to use slim and root login, you'll need to create a .xinitrc in the root folder.
