how do I add the Medis DVD to Synaptic repositories
I just purchased the SimplyMEPIS 6.0-1 DVD Edition. Its a great distro, but I want to take advantage of all of the extras on the DVD and have it added to the Synaptic Package Manager so it is included in my searches versus downloaing new packages from the internet.
I know how to add a new repository using Settings-> Repositories but can't seem to get the correct syntax for adding a DVD/CD-ROm as a URI source.
Any helop on the process and syntax would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Shawn
I also tried adding the DVD by selecting from the Synaptic menus Edit -->Add CD-ROM. This did not work as I received the error "E: Failed to mount the cdrom."
I can access the DVD just fine in Konqueror, and I recently used this DVD to install from so I know the DVD is good and that the disk is mounted.
OK, here is the fix.
Added this line to my /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb cdrom:[MEPIS 6.0 - i386 DVD-1 (20060814)]/ dapper main
I also had some kind of mounting problem with my DVD/CD-rom drive. I rebooted and it fixed that too. Now I am able to add the DVD/CD-rom using the menu and/or by adding to my sources.list file.
