Question Failed Boot on ASUS A7n8X-E Deluxe

I've got a PC with an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard, an IDE drive, and a SATA drive. When attempting to boot SimplyMEPIS from the CD, it stops after a 'Disabling IRQ #11' statement. I've tried booting from the 2.6 and 2.4 kernels including the safe 2.4 kernel boot. I've tried acpi=off, pci=noacpi, and irqpoll, but they haven't made any difference.

I've successfully installed Debian onto this PC, but I'd rather run MEPIS on the PC. Anybody got any ideas as to what I can try to get MEPIS to run on this PC?

Why Mepis?

It seems to me that Mepis' primary appeal is the installation process. If you've already survived that step with Debian, I'm not sure what you gain from moving to Mepis. Most of the Mepis environment is just standard KDE stuff. The video drivers, codecs, adobe reader, and so on can be added without much effort.

You might also find another Debian-based distro, like Knoppix, fills the bill.
