Sorry Maurice Arthur
I see you are using 6.5. I have 6.5.02 running on one of my boxes, and your right, it's not there. I originally looked at the synaptic I was using on 6.9.80Beta3, which will become Mepis 7.
The gspca driver is available at
http://mxhaard.free.fr/download.html
Click on Debian gspca for a page that will give you the ability to download the gspca-source. One of the files in the download is a README file that gives instructions. A thread on the Mepislovers site says that the gspca source does work with 6.5. I would search the mepislovers site for more info.
http://www.mepislovers.org/ search for gspca.
Since I didn't install gspca this way, and I haven't read the README file, I can't guarantee success. I'm always apprehensive compiling without detailed instructions, so, maybe asking for more expert advice on mepislovers would be the way to go. Ask if someone else has compiled it in 6.5 (they must have if they said it works), and see if they encountered any problems.
Sorry I couldn't help more, after 3 years with Linux, still fell a newbie.
Tom
