Desktop icons of file systems - remove/rename?
Hey all! Thrilled about the new MEPIS forum...
Does anyone know a way to remove the: Hard Disk (hda1) [/] Hard Disk (hda3) [/home] off of the desktop? Can I rename these, or is that name tied to its function? As I have installed MEPIS for a number of new-to-Linux users, I would like to remove the root [/] directory from the desktop and rename the "confusing" Hard Disk (hda3) [/home] to "My Files" or something similar. I've also developed a strange case of the Hard Disk [/dev/capi] as a mounted file system, and I have no idea what that is. Removeable (from the desktop)? Or is that related to the occasional USB stick that I've used? Any ideas? |
They're easy to remove. Just go to the control center. It's one of the tabs for windows behavior, desktop configuration, or something like that. You can check and uncheck boxes to show mounted or unmounted devices on the desktop.
As for renaming... I think I tried to do that, and it messed it up. I'm not sure how to do that. |
Once you take the icons off via the Control Center you can add drive icons and name them by doing this:
Right click on the desktop and select New Device Choose what type of device On the General tab, type in the name you want to give this device On the Device tab, select which drive this new icon will refer to Repeat for any drive or device you want to add. |
