Compiled kernel kills Real Player
OK, you kernel hackers. Come to my rescue. For fun I compiled the 2.6.12 kernel from kernel.org.
Sound works fine in XMMS and Kaffeine and mplayer. But it does not work in Real Player. I get a message saying it can't open the device as it is in use. No problem with the Mepis stock 2.6.10 kernel. Did I miss a config parm? Or did Mepis patch the 2.6.10? Anyone have any idea at all why Real Player won't work when using 'my' kernel? Thank, Al |
Real player only supports OSS sound modules
so seee that u have that suport in ur kernel regards |
That might be it. I thought that I had both OSS and ALSA in the kernel but maybe I didn't. No big deal.

i coul solve the problem when i built the OSS support in the kernel
not as modules regards |
I could be having a similar problem... when I recompiled my 2.6.10 kernel (just for kicks), I now get NO sound, and this error when I boot up:
Code:
Sound server informational message: what's wrong? |
did u load the previous config file to compile this kernel or just compiled the kernel with the default configuration that xconfig had for u
regards |
did you add the alsa drivers and oss drivers to the config file? mepis compiles alsa seprately and you will need to compile that again if you didnt
|
I operated from the defaults initially (at least, the ones that xconfig started with), I was unaware that alsa/oss were not built in.
thank you, I'll get to work on that |
