Ack..what the hell..

I decided to try out mepis...the newest, rc2 version. At first, it looked great. Normally I use Kubuntu, but decided to try this out, because I've heard it had better support for KDE. I don't know what the hell is wrong with that version of Mepis..but the lag was HORRIBLE. The system would lock up all the time (256 mb of ram, pentium 2.6ghz here). I don't know what was wrong..I'd check the top, and SEVERAL regular processes were taking up tons of CPU and memory. These ranged from amarok, to konqueror..to kopete..just every day things. I thought maybe I was exagerating how bad it's performance was, so I logged onto kubuntu (after a week on mepis)..and...the speed is amazingly better. I can actually open menus!

Anyway, on kubuntu now..the difference is amazing...and I think it's weird, considering they're both ubuntu based. Did anyone have similar problems? It's just..odd to me, and disapointing.

True, I will do that. I'm thinking maybe they have debugging stuff running or something, that's making it too slow? I don't know..but I will try it once it's out :P. I like it, just not the performance.

When you do try 6.0 final be sure to check the md5sum all the way through the CD you write, and verify that MEPIS is using your swap partition. Best wishes!
