ziff, ntfs, wine issues mandrake10 AMD64
harware:
shuttle SN85G4 with althlon64 3000+
nvidia nforce3 150 chipset
usb2.0/firewire onboard
onbord sound (must be alsa complaint, it works outa the box)
512mb crucial pc3200 ddr ram
samsung ata133 120gb HD
onboard sata raid (unused)
liteon cdrw/dvd rom drive
mandrake 10 beta
kernel 2.6.3-9
firstly let me say hats off to mandrake for the good job they ahve done putting together a distribution for amd64. It installs flawlessly on my system. Secondly, hats off to the amd fro making a nice 64 bit chip.
ok, I am betting that all of my problems are because I am running 64bit.
firstly, I can't seem to locate a working mp3/ogg player for mandrake10 64bit. I haev tried zinf, xmms, and many others, all to no avail. I am pretty sure its not the sound card, as I can play store bought cd's in media player just fine.
Secondly, I have an external USB2.0 drivwe that I use to move files around, and when I hook it to the system, it shows up, automatically, but when I try browse the drive, there is nothing there. I read a note about having to enable ntfs read/write for the kernel, so how do I check to see if it is enables, and if not, how do I enable that.
lastly, has anyone gotten wine to run on the amd64?
thanks,
John

Also AMD64
Hats off as well,
I also have installed the Mandrake 10 AMD64 rc2 though, I am haveing a little difficulty, Mine is more A NewB think i think. My experience is close to Nill with Linux and Mandrake 64 is the first 64b Distro that actually finnished install. And it is running Great, I think.
FYI I am trying to learn this distro on a, AMD64 3200 Notebook.
It installed Flawlessly and everything seems to have been detected properly. except.
I am having problems reading NTFS as anything but root,
changing permissions has not help either,
I burned a CD from XP and is Blank in Mandrake,
That is just a brief (so Far) description. If I find other apps that work in The 64 Ver I will Let you know.
