Xorg and fonts

Hi all,

I just installed Mandrake 10 OE and everything was fine but I then also installed Xorg and Kde3.2.2 on top of it. Now my fonts are looking HORRIBLE.

Any suggestion on what might have caused this?

Please be more specific. What do you mean by "fonts look horrible" ? ...are you not seeing the fonts you'd like on the menus or do you have anti-aliasing turned on? Post a screenshot if you can.

I get the fonts I want, but most of them are barelly readable, especially the italics fonts. An 'l' in itallic is rather three poorly connected small vertical dashes.

I'm in 1024X768;

Apparently it's a font server problem because when I only have the following line in my XF86Config-4:
FontPath "unix/:-1"
then the fonts are ugly, but if I had those:
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi"
FontPath "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi"
, it partially solves the problem but not completely.

So my question is rather: Why is my font server not working properly? I have
Xorg-x11-100dpi-fonts
Xorg-x11-75dpi-fonts
Xorg-x11-server
Xorg-x11
Xorg-x11-xfs
Xorg-x11-Xnest
libXorg-x11r6
libXorg-x11r6-devel
libXorg-x11r6-static-devel

in version 6.7.0-0.0.10mdk installed.

Thank you

Goudi
