X startup really slow

System boots fine but just hangs for 6-7 minutes right before the X login. Any ideas on how to speed this up. RH was never this slow. (Im running KDE)

Also, I added a few things using package manager and somehow my whole startup menu has completely changed (lots and lots of things are missing).

update-menus -v

no need to be root
terminal needs manually closing as this process does not return to command prompt

there is a fix in the 9.2 updates that claims to fix the menu mess up problem

no idea why the slow up is happening

I had a similar problem. One day X worked fine, and the next it took 3 minutes to open my home directory. What I did was reinstall the XFree packages and everything went well. I also installed the newest version of the Nvidia driver and X seemed to run even faster.

As for the menu, you could do what salparadise said, I guess it is some bug in Mandrake.
