Wrong CPU or RPMs for x86-64?

Hello everybody, I'm new to this forum.

I downloaded the Mandriva Linux 2006 ISO for x86-64.

After the installation, I found that there are many RPMs work not properly, e.g. TightVNC. This is the first time I try to setup a 64-bit OS. In fact, I'm not sure if my Intel CPU is compatible with Mandriva for x86-64. Intel claims that the CPU I have (Prescott 650) has EM64T feature (which is copied from AMD64).

I have several questions,
1. Is my CPU compatible with Mandriva for x86-64?
2. Did they include wrong 32-bit RPMs for x86-64 Mandriva?
3. Is x86-64 Mandriva backward compatible with 32-bit RPMs or programs?

Many thanks!

1.)Yeah, your CPU is fine, the x86_64 is a general setup used mainly for Intels. AMD64 is made specially by AMD in order to be different and helps improve speed on AMD machines.

2.) Not all programs are 64bit compatiable yet, so don't be surprised if not everything works quite yet. I'm running Kubutu64 right now and I'm missing a program or two, but it shouldn't be a major problem. Please list the programs that don't work, maybe your trying to set them up wrong or something.

3.) Yes. Or it should be. (sorry i'm not a mandriva user, but I feel confident in my answer)

Are you sure you are using the proper RPMs that are for your Mandriva x86_64 distribution?
