workspaces and shutdown

In order to move a window to a workspace, i have to right click on the window and choose move to workspace #. Is there a way to make it so that I can just drag it over to another workspace? Also, when i try to shut down the computer while logged in, it just logs me out. It does the same thing when i click reboot. Is there a way to fix this?

I am running Gnome on mandrake 9.1

yes, I booted into Gnome to try it, your workspace switcher on your task bar shows little representations of your applications in it, you can drag and drop apps from one workspace to another.

I think you may be having an issue with your display manager, most likely MdkKDM (Mandrake Display manager). I've had problems with it. Since you are using Gnome, you may want to use GDM (Gnome Display Manager), but you don't have to, you can use any display manager you like.

To change it go to Mandrake Control Center and select "hardware" then select "Display Manager Chooser" then you can select the Display manager.

If you are set up to auto login then your display manager acts different that if you manually log in. To change this bring up Mandrake Control Center and select "boot" then select "drakboot" then select "no I don't want to auto login".

In any case when you log out it takes you to the display manager if your using MdkKDM. if you chose KDM or GDM you will get the option to "reboot, shutdown or log out".

Hey I just booted into GDM display manager and it only gives you a logout when you quit, the you have to select system and reboot or shutdown. I normaly use KDM and when you click on logout it gives you the reboot, shutdown or logout selection before quiting your windows manager.

some where in your preferences you can tell it to log out or shut down when you logout

In KDE its
menu
control center
KDE components
session manager
