Yeah the kernel is unable to deal with the resource allocations for the PCMCIA device, hence the lockup.
Did you disable ACPI? (which should be ON!).
Look at /etc/lilo.conf
If you see something like
acpi=ht
or
acpi=off
then ACPI is disabled.
Also note that there are some problems with AGP drivers sometimes if the PCMCIA services are correctly configured.
I posted on a thread where someone was trying to get a Dell Truemobile Mini-PCI card to work on their system, information which is applicable in this case.
