Wine half installed
 

Hello,

I installed wine today and i couldn't get it to work, then browsing the cd i found the wine that coes with mandrake and is partialy configured. So rushing without using my head i went to the previous version i installed (wine-20050111-mdk.i586.rpm) and tried to uninstall it.. Big nono, i should have not done that because i never got the program conf file up and running correctly it couldn't uninstall fully but now i cant install the one on the cd because it gives me a huge amount of errors.

first it migght be easer to start from srach (move all user files off thet hdd and reinstall 10.1 ) goto winehq.com for the files for wine

Can you post the errors? they may be easy to resolve.

Why the reinstall Mandrake 10.1 suggestion?

Very ugly and I don't believe necessary.

Instead remove all vestiges of Wine and try again...

e.g.

rpm -e `rpm -qa | grep wine `

Which will locate all rpm's associated with wine then uninstall them.

Then you can re-install Wine either from the DVD or the Wine source files.

Re-install = Windows mentality.

Until you get used to Linux, it is easy to fall into the old ways of thinking, like, "if this doesn't work, I'll just reinstall". But with Linux, you can *fix* all but the most major problems. Opjose is right, make sure you have cleared all the old wine files, then install it either from the DVD or from wine sources.


BTW, opjose, it's nice to see you posting again. I missed you for a while. I even appropriated part of your sig to make sure newbies saw it while you were away. :)
