i am having an issue with email and earthlink. every thing worked fine in suse 8.2 and such. however i am unable to get it to work in mandrake 10. i am guessing it is a bug in KDE.
am i correct in thinking that most email programs, Kmail and Mozilla, that i have tried run off the same 'core' KDE component?

anyways it will not send email, gives this message
Sending failed:
Your SMTP server doesn't support authentication.
The server responded: "LOGIN mechanism not supported"
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.

now i am useing the same exact setting i have been useing.

if i check "see what server supports" it still uses plain. if i try messing with recieveing it bombs on me and will totaly fail to work at all, so i have not messed with it

this is the same problem a friend is having with their system. also mandrake 10 and earthlink, though on a dial up.

what is the bug and how do i fix it. any cheap tricks to get it to work

Well I use earthlink and Slack 9.1 with no problems,
it sound like you have a permissions issue with one or more
directories........you'll just have to go thru and check any and all
directories associated with tcp/ip and/or kkkp protocols and look
for the culprit manually to fix the problem.
