Will LE2005 work on MSI RS480 with AMD Athlon64
 

Hi All,

I am new to linux. I am trying to install linux on a machine with AMD Athlon64 3000+ on MSI RS480M2 motherboard with SATA harddisk.
Can anyone suggest if Mandriva LE2005 supports this motherboard and sata harddisk. I tried to install Suse 9.2, but it fails to detect the sata harddisk.

Yes, i think mandriva supports your motherboard and your SATA harddisk.
Just a simple google search throws up people who use your hard disk and Mandriva.

BTW, are you going to install i586 or x86_64?

Just curious, where are you going to install from? There is only once iso CD for x86_64 and no DVD iso(as far as i have searched). I plan on buying an AMD Turion or Athlon 64 notebook in a few weeks, so just keep me posted on whether the CD contains everything.

Just finished the installation, Everything went fine except that the display had to be set at a lower resolution than what ATI Radeon xpress 200 can support. Based on my search, this is probably the only linux dist to have worked smoothly with this motherboard.
Anyways, you are right, the x86_64 which i downloaded from the ftp siles in Madriva webpage, is only 1cd.
Not much stuff. In case you want the package list let me know, i can send it to you
