why does clicking an email address in KMail load Evolution?

Using downloaded Mandrake 9.2. I installed Evolution (by Ximian) as well as KMail thinking that I could choose which email program to use after trying both. I have not been able to run the script that is supposed to convert the CSV file (exported from M$ Outlook Express) to the VCARD file required by Ximian to import my email address list from Windows. I am a very newbie :)

There was no problem importing the CSV (comma separated values) address list into KMail (yea!), which is supposed to be less fancy than the Evolution program. However, in KMail when I click on the button to send new email or open the address book and select any address and then click on the email address in the right hand side window, I am taken to the Ximian evolution program! I have checked in KDE that the preferred email handler is set to KMail and the problem occurs in both KDE and Gnome.

Any ideas please whether I will have to un-install evolution (since I have no addresses in that anyway) or is there some manual fix necessary in a conf file or is it a bug?

Thanks

Swamiji.

That's messed!

Perhaps check your mime-types in KDE or GNOME whatever environment your are using?

Hi Gary.
Upon further checking, I realised that the problem only occurs in ONE situation, namely that when one opens the address book and instead of clicking on a name in the LH column, one clicks on the name in the RH column (right Hand), then instead of opening a "Create" window, KMail loads Evolution email program. So I un-installed Ximian Evolution, whcih somehow messed up Kmail, forcing me to use the Upgrade feature of the Linux Mandrake install CD's to get KMail to work again. Going into KMail this time, revealed that clicking on the same link (hand pointing left) did nothing!

As a real beginner here, I am at a loss as to what to do. Should I re-install evolution or leave well alone? In KDE Kmail works, but in Gnome, nothing happens now when I click on the KMail icon.
