why are cd's so permission paranoid?

Unless I'm root the default is to have every file I drag off a cd not
with write permissions and so I can't even delete it.. And in Mandriva I can't even burn a mf'n cd unless I'm running dangerous root. wtf? I'd love to go to MIT and learn how to set users up and all that but...my grades are too low?

Read the fstab man page. you should be able to set the permissions

"man fstab" from a konsole

so the users can access the cdroms/dvd's
