I currently have a lexmark z515($29.95) and run 2005le.There doesnt seem to be any drivers for this printer in the cups db.The printer is almost out of ink.My theory on printers is to buy a $30 printer which comes with the ink cartridges(which cost double the price of the printer to replace?go figure)when its out of ink I trash it and buy another printer. My question is which printers are compatible with mand 2005le(pnp) or where might I find a list of printers that are compatible with linux? Thanks for the info.
Yes i found that about the z600 drivers and tried but it didnt work for me.As for the cheap printers I buy the ink by the qt.Usually about $10 for the black and $9 pt.for the color. The ink cartridges themselves(lexmark anyways) are good for 2-3 refills before they start to print really badly.Thats when I toss the printer.By that time I've filled a $30+ cartridge a couple times for a few bucks.
I've been reading up on this today and it seems almost all hp and brother printers are compatible with the cups util.I found a hp for around $40.I think I'll try that one.I mostly print b/w memos for my sunday school teachers and awana leaders. That should last me awhile.
Thanks for the info
Once you figure out refilling.....it's the way to go.
Epson has great support but they've been putting in counter chips. You have to reset the chip in order to use the cartridge after you refill them.
Samsung also has great linux support.
If you go into your printer config in MCC, and hit "add printer" then follow the wizard, you will see a database of preinstalled printer drivers in Mandriva.
I use a Samsung laser for personal stuff. The family PC gets an old Canon BJ100.....why?
1. I've bought several for family and friends at yard sales $5 or less (hold page feed button then hit ON to self test) If it prints, your in luck
2. It has a huge inktank 25ml (way fewer refills)
3. It prints even when theres no color ink......'cause there's no colored ink ...Oh yea
4. Kids can't use up all the colored ink......oh, that's right...............cause there's no colored ink! ...Oh yea,
5. for a handful of pages it's perfect
6. Takes up NO room, it is slim and fits right on the PC tower.
