Where are all my packages?

k here is my prob, you know when you install mandrake and select the packages you want installed, well when i get to that screen there are probably not even half the amount of packages that there should be(example: games, it gives 1 game to pick) and not once has it ever asked me to insert the second or third disks. for example: installing mplayer i have like 19 missing dependencies same with most programs i try to install. i have tried going into install software but the list is still the same, more than half the list is not there, i don't quite understand why this could be. i have tried a different set of 9.1 disks off somebody else and its still the same. any help?

Maybe if you kept going you would have got to the "If you have additional cd's to install from" screen. And not have posted this here.

Caeda, what give's you the idea he doesn't keep going on the install? He has actually re-installed about five time's. As he stated, his option's on the install are very limited.
800mb worth actually. There is nothing wrong with his disk's because I have used them myself.
After the install, if he goes through packaging, install software, the same thing take's place. Nothing available.

Anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

So one of you uses the set of disks and can install the stuff from all three, while the other somehow can use only one of them?

Have you tried installing in expert mode? Press F1 and then type expert. I think it explicitly asks you which disks you have.

If this does not help, you can always add the rpms from the other cds manually after installing.

urpmi.addmedia -f CD_2 removable://mnt/cdrom/RPMS2

for CD2 and replace the 2's with 3's for CD3. After this, the stuff will appear in mandrake's software installation tool.

Because he never actually states that he completed an install? Maybe that's why? And perhaps it has something to do with my having bought/downloaded/used every version of mandrake since 6.0 and every time had it ask for the additional cd's.. AFTER, I have completely installed everything else?

well i tried installing mandrake under expert mode but unfortunatly it never ask for anything, it was still the same install from before. but thanks for the help quatsch, i appreciate it.

i tried urpmi.addmedia -f CD_2 removable://mnt/cdrom/RPMS2 but it said it was unable to access medium CD_2, why is that?

I might have given you the wrong path. Put in the CDs and open it (it's under /mnt/cdrom). Look for the folder named RMPS2 or something like that - it's the one that contains a bunch of files with rpm endings. If it is /mnt/cdrom/mandrake/RPMS2 then do
urpmi.addmedia -f CD_2 removable://mnt/cdrom/mandrake/RPMS2

Don't forget the -f option and the double slash after 'removable:'
