VMware 4.0.5 in Mandriva 10?

Has anyone run VMware 4.0.5 or similar in Mandriva 10? Does it require any special adaptation? Thanks.

Hello,

I'm not an expert and it's been awhile since I used Mandrake, but I
do use VMWare regularly.

From the Mandriva homepage it looks like you have a choice between a 2.4.x
kernel and a 2.6.x kernel.

I believe that VMWare 4.0.x will not run on a 2.6.x kernel, while 4.5.x will. Whenever
I've had a problem running VMWare, I've applied the patches from Petr's any-any-update
packages. That's going to be your best chance to get 4.0.x going. They can be found
at:
ftp://platan.vc.cvut.cz/pub/vmware

I'd also strongly suggest searching the VMWare online fora at:
http://www.vmware.com/community/index.jspa

Also, I believe that I got a free update from 4.0.x to 4.5.x at VMWare.com. I
think your chances would be better with the newer release. And, of course,
if you've got the cash, they've just released 5.0

Good luck,

Don A

VMware has been reduced in price to $200 now and is far superior to anything else I've tried. I currently have Mandrake 10.1 as my os with the following OSs installed under vmware:

Mandrake 10.2 rc1
Win2kPro
Win XP Pro
Red Hat 9.0
Slackware 9.0 (dosen't run good though)
Suse 9.1 Personal (don't like it either)
