Hi

Apache (with php) is running, mysql is running, proftpd is running all starting on boot. There is no problem viewing files on apache locally

I am using a router with the apache server on 192.168.1.11 and a winME box on 192.168.1.245

I cant connect via FTP to 192.168.1.11 from the windows box neither can I see any of the files on apache.

Anyideas what I'm still to do?

Is any firewall in the way? Can you

$ ping 192.168.1.245 (ping winmebox)

or

C:\> ping 192.168.1.11 (ping linuxbox)

Is the FTP working locally on the linux box? Can you

$ ftp localhost

Hi steve here's the info.

no can ping from linux to windows

Right, I imagine a firewall is blocking incomming packets to your Windows machine, it may be doing much more. Try turning of your firewall (disconnect your router from the internet if you wish) and try pointing your web browser again at

192.168.1.11:80

As for your FTP, it seems that it is not working properly at all, but I've never used an FTPD on linux, sorry :(. You may want to ask seperately about getting your FTP working.

Also, if you don't mind, try forwarding port 80 from your router and seeing if people on the outside can see your apache webpage :)?

There's no firewall, also tried disconnecting the router, still no luck.

192.168.1.11:80 give error message

'the connection was refused while attempting to contact 192.168.1.11'

I can view apache on http://localhost on the linux box only.

I had this set up and working when using MDK 9.2 and the router didn't need any adjustments so I presume the ports are being forwarded correctly by default. Bit tricky to check as I live in Japan and its all in Kanji. I've become very familiar with altavistas bablefish recently!! Like I say the router didn't require any setting changes before upgrading to MDK 10.

I tried viewing from outside but the server doesn't show.

The FTP server appears to be ok but as I can't connect to it I can't be sure. If the FTP problem still exists after I'm able to view the server from the windows box then I'll post another thread.

I just need to connect to the server from somewhere other than localhost first.

I have discovered that I can view the linux bow from the windows box on

192.168.1.12

The router says its 192.168.1.11 so I've no idea why it should be .12 It was .11 the last time I got this to work.

Now when I view 198.192.1.12 I can only see the default apache index page. I cant see any of the folders from the windows box but I can on http://localhost on the linux box.

any ideas why?

Try opening the Mandrake Control center, click the security button, click firewall, and select "everything (no firewall)" Try it, then if it works, go back in and select Web Server and FTP as your only two services.

Remember to only allow thru the services you actually use. Close all the others.

As for your router, are you really sure "port forwarding" is opened up on port 80? Sometimes routers dump their settings when you accidentally press the reset button when picking up the box. I feel like taking the stupid button off with some pliers...
