very much a NooB to linux/mandrake

i just installed mandrake 9.2 (after using lindowsOS, ugh) and i want to use my pc for a webserver. i'm looking to use apache with php, mysql & a few other programs. my question is, what's the easiest way to obtain/install these? i'm very new to linux so i'm not familiar at all with commands. thanks so much!

p.s.
i've been a slave to windows for too long, i'd love to get into linux a lot more.

According to mandrakes web site apache and my SQL are packages you can choose to install, what you should do is find your install remove packages wizard and find apache and SQL then install them from your cd's.

There should be packages for those programs on the Mandrake discs - try SoftDrake, their software installation wizard.

You're probably going to want to look into urpmi too - that's Mandrake's online-update tool for sofware.

thanks so much guys. will that stuff work even tho i didn't get the discs from mandrake's website? i got them from another site (bit torrent maybe, it's been a while since i dl'd them)

no matter where you got them from, they'll be the same ISOs that Mandrake released. Unless you got them from somewhere really shady and full of crackers. ;)

think i got them from suprnova.org, don't remember tho. i never saw anywhere during the install that i could install anything like apache. just what i wanted to use my pc as & i did select webserver. i'll give the suggestions a try when i get home.
