I have Mandrake 10.0 Community Edition but I dont want to use the 2.6 kernel that ships with it because my wireless card only has drivers for 2.4!
I heard somewhere that we could set that up during install time but i cant find where.
Is there a way to do this or do I have to compile my own 2.4 kernel ?
Thanks
The easiest way is to enable the "LSB" from the packages selection. Mandrake will then inform, it's going to install the older kernel 2.4 instead of 2.6, for compatibility.

Yes, that's the easiest way I've found. I'm sure there has to be an official and proper way to do it, but I've got both kernels installed. If you're using LILO, I think MDK10CE makes the 'linux' option boot with the 2.4 kernel, and 'linux-enterprise' and '263-4' both use the 2.6 kernel. Not sure about the rest.
If you already have mandy10 installed with the 2.6 kernel then you don't have to go throught a reinstall just to have the 2.4 kernel. You can install the 2.4 kernel rpm-I think it is on the 2nd cd -not sure about this.
However if you need the kernel source then it is available for download.Just google for a site to download the "kernel-source-2.4.25-2mdk.rpm".
