One of the users on my machine now has an image of a goldfish next to their username at the login screen. This user used to, and all other users still do, have the default plain "head & shoulders outline" as the image next to their username at the login screen. We are not sure (including the user in question) how the goldfish got there and would like to know how to change the images shown at the login screen. We use Gnome. How is this setting changed?
The Mandrake configuration tool make this very easy for you. You'll find them quickly if you take a good look at all program names.

There are a few different programs that can show the login screen: kdm, gdm, xdm... If the settings don't change anything, you are probably configuring the wrong display manager. To find out which is used on your machine, type
ps aux | grep dm
in a shell
Tried to run kdm as root user in terminal, but nothing happened (same for xdm, gdm command not found). Can't find GUI launcher for this program. How do I launch kdm? Perhaps it is a Mandrake version of kdm I am looking for? Found a perl script called mdkapplet in /usr/bin/, maybe this has something to do with what I'm after (doubt it). I am stumbling around in the dark but having fun, hope I don't break anything!
The mystery of the goldfish lives on. When in /usr/share/faces/ and I select "properties + select custom icon" for the user's icon there is no .png goldfish image in the list of icons presented. It is inconsequential but where this .png image came from and how it got there is bugging me.
Thanks for the help. I found the images in /usr/share/mdk/faces/. I logged out then when logging back in chose to use a KDE session rather than the usual Gnome. This provided different GUI launchers in the menu than I usually see. I then ran one of theKDE configuration applications (can't remember which one right now) and found the option to change the login face. It seems that each type of session has slightly different applications readily available from the GUI menus. It also seems that the KDE login configuration is the one that sets the look and feel of the login page, which is diplayed prior to choosing the session type.
