USB support in Linux installations (redhat, mandrake)

Why do these NEVER work for me? The mouse will work halfway through then just stop or not work at all. Same with the keyboard, but it seems to have a much higher failure rate. I was bored and decided to reinstall linux tonight (mandrake) and I can't even get passed the mouse detection thing. As soon as it boots into the cd installation wizard neither the mouse or keyboard will work, but it will go on automatically after like 15 seconds. When in the first part of the installation where you configure the basic stuff the mouse will work and sometimes (not frequently) the keyboard. After this step the mouse/keyboard will likely just stop responding and I can't get any futher. Or other times the installation will just hang completely. What the hell is wrong with it or why does Linux hate me so much?

Forgot to mention that this same problem has happened on two different computer configurations (completely different motherboards) and that USB support is enabled on bootup in the bios. USB works perfectly in windows and when it boots. Just not in the Linux installation wizard.

Turns out usb was disabled on bootup (mmust have reset it at some point and forgotten). Anyways I turned it on and it boots into the installation wizard fine and both are working. Then I select English and hit next...this is where it hangs for about one minute then it pops up the end user aggreement accept/decline box. This is where both mouse and keyboard stop working, but continue to stay lit up.

have u tried the text install perhaps? give it a go...

I'm not very versed in linux yet and probably couldn't get very far in the text based install.

imo, the mandrake text install is very easy

If you are working with a cooker snapshot or beta of mandrake 10, this was posted on their site as a known bug. It is not listed for the newest 10 beta 2 now, so maybe it is fixed.

The 10 rc 1 is scheduled for Thursday, so you might hold off downloading, but who knows about the schedule, as it was set for today until a few days ago.

I'm using 9.2

Anyways, now my problem is files not wanting to come off the cd =/

Anytime I try to install Linux everything that can go wrong does go wrong.

I'm giving up for tonight and tomorrow I'll try my luck with installing it off another HD. A man can only take so much in one night before he kicks in his monitor in frustration.
