unable to access hdlist file of "main", medium ignored
unable to access hdlist file of "contrib", medium ignored

Did you upgrade urpmi or perl recently? If you did then try reinstalling urpmi or those perl packages.

Sorry I missed you post above about perl because I had several tabs opened and didn't refresh yours before answering. You need to go to a Mandriva updates mirror and install the perl packages from there.

I went to the mirrors but cant seem to find anything suitable.
I also tried reinstalling mandriva but it stalls at the installation stage.

Im kinda new to linux so that may be why i cant fix this! hehe
Any other tips?

Thanks!

Try going to http://rpm.pbone.net and searching for the original perl package for your Mandriva version. You might have some trouble downgrading the perl package, but you should be able to trick him. By problems I mean dependency issues and stuff.

I've had the same problems, starting from mcc not starting up, locking up at the splash screen, various modules segfaulting, rpmdrake crashing when trying to search/select/display info about a package, and the list goes on. I ran drakconf.real through perl's debugger and surprise... worked juts fine.

It seems I've been having this problems ever since I've done a major update to the system [cooker - 681 packages]. I also noticed some core components were unchanged (urpmi, drakconf, a.s.o) so this might be a perl problem. Fresh installs didn't solve the issue. [cooker/x86_64]
