Upgrading to Mandriva Linux 2008

Hi,
I am a Linux newbie, and I am currently using Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring. I see that Mandriva Linux 2008 is now available for download. Can I install it over the older version so that my files and settings are not lost? I have never done this before; when I upgraded from 2006 to 2007 I formatted the hard drive and did a clean install.
And also, my computer is quite old:
P3 1137 MHz
512 MB SD RAM
Intel i810E2 motherboard.
I was wondering if that could be a problem.
The Live CD seems to work fine.

I don't think that the hardware should be a problem.... of course you can do an upgrade just insert the 2008dvd it will ask you if you wanna do an upgrade or a clean install.... as I said you can go on with the upgrade but first back up you're sensitive data (just in case that something goes wrong) and if you don't like it you can do anytime a clean install!
My 2 cents are anyway that after the backup do a clean install.... that is what I'm gonna do... ;) :)
edit: you can always do a nice and easy backup using drakbackup

If you have a separate /home partition, you might be better off doing a clean install and do not format the /home partition, where your files and settings are kept. I tried an update yesterday (and the Mandriva forums are also talking of this) and the initial package selection process is taking 20-30 minutes, the actual updating is taking hours, and many times it is getting hung up and not finishing. I tried for 4 hours yesterday to go the update route, and finally just did the clean install, formatting ONLY MY / PARTITION, NOT MY /HOME, and all files and settings are still there.

That's what I'm going to do, a clean install, Save /home.

It's been downloading for two days now (90%), I should have it setup tomorrow. :)
