Upgrading to mandrake 10.0

I am now using mandrake 9.2 . I've just downloaded the 3 cd version of the mandrake community 10.0 version . I believe that i can upgrade my mandrake 9.2 to 10.0. Is this true? Wil i loose any settings or applications such as dvdrip , acidrip , gift (and apollon) , opera etc etc?

PS1. I have a 9600 ati radeon pro which works under mandrake 9.2 . Will it work nice under 10.0 ? Does it support 3d accelaration like 9.2 ?

PS2. What's your opinion about mandrake 10.0 ?

Moved: You do realize that we have an official Mandrake forum right? Moved as its more suitable in the Mandrake forum. Regards.

You can upgrade from 9.2 to 10. You shouldn`t lose any settings ( this is the idea of upgrading) but be sure to back up any vital info just in case.
And as a final thought, just remember that 10 community IS NOT the official STABLE release. The official mandrake 10 will be out in a couple of months. Mandrake explains this in detail on their website. The community edition is kind of like a glorified release candidate, it was meant for those who wanted the absolute latest but weren`t worried about doing some fiddling if they encountered a few bugs.Mandrake will still be working hard at the moment making the official release as trouble free and stable as possible for people (like me) who want a solid distro without having to worry about whether i should be using it as my main system.
In short if you want a stable mdk 10 with all the updated bug fixes wait for the official release.

cheers

Although Mandy 10 community is not the official version I find it works really nice (except for this and that)

Hmm. I've heard that Direct rendering Manager in
kernel 2.6.3 is incompatible with ATIs driver module. Is this true?

Anybody?

Sorry everyone, I would PM the author, but I can't PM anyone (I think you have to have a certain post count or something.)

DRM is incompatible with ATI's driver, but you can a) force installation of the 2.4 kernel or b) recompile your kernel without DRM. That's what I did

If you haven't upgraded yet, I would recommend you wait until the 10.0 Official ISO's are available, and then upgrade.

Edit: Wait, never mind, I didn't see your distribution text :o

Mandrake 10.0 Official

I am using Mandrake 10.o Official. My Mother board is MSI K7N2 with nForce 2 chip and a ATI Radeon 9200se graphic card. I don't think the Direct rendering is working nor compatible with this kernel 2.6.3mdk I am running now. I tried to make the direct rendering to be yes but it came out to be:
root@jeff root]# glxinfo |grep direct rendering
direct rendering: No
The official release doesn't solve the problem. I haven't tried
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...826#post858826
That is too complicated and I am not using my Linux as gaming system. Thus I don't care much about the direct rendering. What is the difference about enabling direct rendering or not? Performance? Stability?
