How i can upgrade KDE 3.5.4 to 3.5.6 in Mandriva 2007?

I meant the tute, not the whole package.

urpmi will do it, for kde I'd suggest doing it with out kde running (anywhere).

kde-3.5.6 released for both arches x86 and x86_64

I just finished installing kde-3.5.6 on my Mandriva-2006 distribution running kde-3.4.2. My advice is to follow the instructions posted by the kde.org.

The procedure I used was to create a new user(kdedev) & install kde-3.5.6 in his home directory from downloaded tarball packages. This user gets his own environment setup via his ~/.bash_profile file. Thus when he logs on the system he gets to use Kde-3.5.6 because his environment points him there.

Here is my /home/kdedev/.bash_profile:

KDEDIR=/home/kdedev/kde-3.5.6
PATH=/home/kdedev/kde-3.5.6/bin:$PATH

export KDEDIR PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH

unset USERNAME

You will also need to create a private .xsession file in the new user's home directory. Then whenever you boot or logout of any gui session you can login as the new user by choosing the "Default" desktop entry in the KDM drop box

Here is my /home/kdedev/.xsession:

From what I have read this is the safest way to upgrade to a newer kde desktop because your old kde desktop remains isolated & protected from corruption. Besides being safe you have access to two desktop environments.

I found success with using the tute from sos and the files from djura media-source

Since it is already April. one could wait for 2007.1 (Spring) to be released in a few weeks. It will have KDE 3.5.6 as the default desktop.

I am testing the cooker packages here, and all seems to work OK. Of course, I do not use the 3D Desktop or Metisse, so i can not speak for those.
