Update Mandriva 2009

Suppose I have Win 7 and Mandriva 2009 installed in my machine. Now if I want to update 2009 to 2010 version which would be released soon. Shall I be able to do that by using the DVD?

The short answer is: Yes you can. Mandriva will set up the boot loader the same way it did when you installed MDV 2009.x.

If you have a separate partition for the /home directory tree, you can use the install option and your user configuration(s) will survive the installation, at least after all system wide software is reinstalled.

Any software installed in your personal user space may need launchers re-created, but they should survive as well.

it's preferable to make a install instead of an update or upgrade... if you don't have a separate "/home partition" you better need to backup. In my experience and habits, i do the upgrade via mandriva update , it keeps the configs located in your "/usr/local" and etc, and then i download the DVD in case something happens after the upgrade or after i mess with the system configs...

Current stable is 2009.1, but 2010.0 is due to be released in early November.

Mandriva 2010 is now released.

I'm on 2009 on my desktop, and I'm just installing powerpack 2009 on my server. I'll want to upgrade to 2010 almost immediately.

It's my understanding that with 2009, I can get to 2010 and future versions through incremental updates. Is this correct? i.e. I just keep all the updates installed, and I eventually end up at 2010 automatically. IS that correct?
