Unable to setup Linksys WPC11 on Mandrake 9.2
After a Windows-related computer crash, I have converted to Mandrake Linux 9.2. However, I found out that I am having some difficulty getting my wireless internet card to work. I tried to run the install rpogram off the CD under Wine, but it told me "The folder C\Documents and Settings\Common FilesREE8 could not be created" and then stopped working. The indicator lights are on, but I cannot connect to the Access Point.
My question is, what do I need to do in order to make this work? System: Dell Inspiron Pentium 4 1.6 GHz 512 MB RAM Hitachi IDE-CD/CD-RW drive Linksys WPC-11 802.11b Notebook adapter (not the Realtek one) Mandrake 9.2 standard installation i.e. whatever you download from mandrake-linux.com is what is running GNOME Desktop 2.4 Thanks Michael |
Sorry just to clarify I am running kernel version 2.4.22

Wine certainly is not going to solve your problems, but this should:
1) install wireless-tools (urpmi wireless-tools) 2) go to www.linuxant.com and download the driverloader rpm 3) install the rpm (rpm -i driverloader-*.rpm) 5) point here browser to the http address it gives from there on you'll be able to upload two windows driver files, so look in your install cd for the wireless card for the .inf and the .sys file. then everything should start working, you'll have 30 days of grace for this to work because it is only a demo, but if you pay $20.00 you can use the license for a lifetime, which really isn't a bad bargain. cheers |
Even easier.
What version of the WPC-11 are you using. I have the same distro of Mankdrake, same kernal, I just plugged the WPc-11 VER 3 (very important) wait for the beep, then /sbin/ifdown eth0 /sbin/ifup eth1 Mandrake, as long as you installed everything when you set up the computr should have all packages you need. BUT.... The WPC11 will only work for sure up to Version 3. Version 4 , the newest one, does not always work... I have both versions, an SMC card, an amtel usb wifi adaptor, and the only one that worked was the WPC 11 ver 3. |
