trying to send update to counter.li.org

Got this message while executing: ./machine-update -i

Code:
----- Problem info gathered during probing -----
/usr/bin/last failed because /var/log/wtmp isn't readable
how can I make wtmp readable so I can update the Linux Counter?

I believe that you need root access to read that file

tried root, got this message when opening through gedit

Code:
gedit was not able to automatically detect the character coding.
Please, check that you are not trying to open a binary file and try
again selecting a character coding in the 'Open File...'
(or 'Open Location') dialog.

It is actually a binary file. You can open it using GHex, but that's not really necessary. All you need to do is execute the script as root.

That worked this time, but the Linux Counter site said root was not needed.
