Unhappy Trying to Remaster Mandriva 2008, can't get draklive or mklivecd to work.

Hi all,

I have what I would think is a simple goal: I've got this mandriva 2008 installation exactly how I want it on my PC, and now I want to make an installable livecd remaster of it.

In (Mandriva-based) PCLinuxOS, the process to do this is:
type "remasterme" (its just a wrapper on mklivecd)
hit enter

I understand that the newer Mandriva versions scrapped that as being too inflexible, and now I'm trying to use the draklive command to do it, but it's not working too well for me. I can't seem to get the config file right, or I'm skipping some setup steps. It says "unrecognized architecture: i586". Mklivecd, while still included with the distro, fails outright when I try to use it instead.

At any rate, all I want is a bootable, installable dvd image of my system. I don't want automatic updates, extra bundled software, or anything clever to run before or after install. Is there a sample config file or different remastering process altogether for this type of task?

Any help would be - well - helpful. Hopefully this is the right forum for this type of question.

Lightbulb Doh!

My next best option:

1) Make a minimal livecd of PCLinuxOS (easy) that has partitioning and tar/gzip/etc. capablilities.

2) Make tar backup of entire Mandriva partition.

3) boot from livecd, restore tar'ed mandriva to new partition.

4) change /etc/fstab to match up

5) boot to new Mandriva system.

* If I didn't already have a bootloader installed, easy enough to use the livecd to install my tiny live system to hdd first, before any restores.

In general, I've found it extremely convenient to build a very minimalist distro whose sole purpose is to act as bootloader and backup/restore manager. Less mucking around unintentionally breaking bootloader with every install.
